Faith, hope and love!

And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love” (1 Cor 13:13 NKJV).

Have you ever wondered why love is greater than faith and hope? Well, unlike faith and hope which will be irrelevant in eternity, love will endure forevermore. In the Book of Hebrews, we are told to “draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith” (10:22), to “hold fast the confession of our hope” (10:23) and to think about one another to “stir up love” (10:24).

Nothing in the Bible indicates we will be omniscient in our eternal existence. However, our future knowledge will be far greater than our present knowledge. Presently, we only “know in part” but then we shall know as we are known by Him – apparently a sufficient understanding of all things (1 Cor 13:12). Most likely, our glorified state will simply be one big eternal classroom, yet without any shred of boredom.

In this present world, we need faith because we do not yet experience what we will be (Heb 11:1; 1 John 3:2). Likewise, we need hope because we do not yet see our final state of salvation – our glorified bodies (Rom 8:24; 13:11). Imagine the day when the frontiers of ignorance will be peeled back. Although we will not be all-knowing, scientists tell us that we only use a fraction of our minds today. In our glorified existence, we will have full knowledge of His eternal love. Great things ahead of us!
